We are so glad we chose calm birth for our second birth.

"It's been 4 whole months since our little boy was born, and finally I'm emailing you to say thank you for Calmbirth.  I've had this email in my mind it it's been a busy time, to say the least.

His birth was magical. Calmbirth helped me to breathe easily through my early contractions and go buy food, cook and eat dinner and then rest in bed listening to my meditations and gazing up at the moon. Very quickly the contractions became intense and I became more vocal - yet it was a powerful and measured vocalisation of my breath during the waves and then deep calm breathing between, if that makes sense?

I felt very calm.

We got to the birth centre just before midnight after a car ride of contractions rolling in on top of each other, yet I only really lost it during one and then quickly regained my rhythm. 

My midwife examined me and I was over 8cm. Huge excitement for us after really only 2 hours of intensity. 43 mins later, our little boy was born in the birthing suite's bath. My waters broke in the water and he was born 10 mins after that. So incredible and we were in complete awe for weeks after!

I know that the techniques I learned at Calmbirth classes helped my cervix to relax and open quickly and helped me to birth him with ease. Not a drug needed and no stitches! He is a very chilled, super happy bubba who feeds and settles easily. He was 4.02kg at birth too, so pretty proud of my body!

"Coming from a man’s practical view of childbirth I found Heli Murray freaking amazing with the birth of both our children.
We met her as she was recommended for the Calmbirth course. The course, and Heli’s delivery of it, went a long way towards cementing and supporting our belief that birth doesn’t have to be a painful experience.
With both births we bounced off Heli a lot. She always had time for us and I believe she offered very balanced and well-informed views without pressuring us to decide. Our first birth was well overdue, with caregivers wanting to induce. Using a lot of Heli’s techniques and support we were able to birth naturally in hospital without drugs and without experiencing ‘pain’. Heli was also an advocate for us with the hospital staff as she explicitly stated what we did and didn’t want in our birth experience.
At one stage with our first bub, Heli had her hand on my partner’s lower back and was gently moving her. I had a go, after a while of watching, and I knew (as my partner did) that the movement I was doing was not quite right. This may not seem that good an example of the work Heli does, but the difference between her’s and my touch was powerful enough to remember vividly. Heli seems to have a great inner skill at having just the right words, actions and support at just the right time.
Our second bub we had at home with Heli providing most of the support overnight. Not proudly, I slept through most of it. It says a lot that the relationship we’ve developed with Heli allowed my partner and I to trust her to be the main support person to safely welcome our second baby. The midwives arrived about half an hour before the little fella came along.
All this is not to say that Heli is an amazing midwife, for me what Heli excels at as a Doula is:

• Empowering us to take responsibility for our birth experience
• Always remaining calm, joyful and peaceful
• Offering knowledgeable, balanced information for issues that arise, and then suggesting cross-discipline solutions including medical intervention, pharmacy-based medicine and natural alternatives and methods. But always the decision lies with us.
• An accomplished ability to perceive when to be hands on and when to leave us alone to enjoy the birth process

My one criticism is that she doesn’t charge enough for her service and support she provides pre, during and post birth.
I highly do recommend Heli to anyone about to birth, however you choose to birth."
